Designed by the Institute of Biomechanics, this interactive model describes radial load transfer between implant and bone in uncemented press-fit femoral stem implantations.
The app allows stem design, implication force and join loading to be varied, to illustrate their influence on radial bone stress and eventual implant-bone separation, especially during the direct post-operative phase. Critical bone stress for "normal" and "osteoporotic" bone can be displayed and ingrowth simulated. The goal is to prevent separation at the interface to allow bone ingrowth, but without overloading the bone.
